Thanks for writing. These things can take on a life of their own and I haven't been sure where it would go because I haven't suggested that people make a particular use of the site. However, I am planning to do more advertising, promotion and overt suggestion of ideas in the future. Now that more people are starting to join it will also be interesting to see what uses or habits they develop themselves without my prodding.
Lack of participation can become a problem if people perceive a lack of activity here. In essence, a certain people will need to feel value in spending time here on a regular basis.
I can see some advantages over Facebook:
1. We're Danbury-centric: thus cutting out the extraneous noise of Facebook. There aren't any good community sites for our region and this site can fill that niche.
2. We'll have a greater capacity to serve as a business directory or community bulletin board than Facebook will. We will also probably skew to an older demographic than Facebook.
3. We're fairly feature-rich here and probably just as customizable as Facebook, which is becoming too complex for many.
Thanks for being engaged enough to think about things and by all means feel free to promote your business as well as personal interests on Danbury.me.
