NEW "ACCESSIBLE ART" ON DISPLAY IN CITY HALL
Danbury City Hall has begun showcasing its latest artwork display on the third floor of City Hall. This display highlights work by Joan McCaffrey, an artist for over 30 years, who has created
exceptional works of art through Botanical illustration.
McCaffrey explained, "Ultimately I found my true passion after taking a couple of classes in Botanical Art. I began studying with a few teachers who teach Botanical Illustration at the New York Botanical Gardens and have since exhibited my work at the Wooster School, the Lexington Gardens Juried Exhibition and the Juried Danbury Mall Exhibit. This show is my first solo exhibit and I am very excited to share my love of botanicals with the public."
McCaffrey received an Associates degree in Graphic Arts from Rockland Community College and a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from the College of Mt. St. Vincent. She began her professional career in 1979, creating line illustrations and producing mechanical art for various advertising agencies. She continued to study new techniques including airbrushing, magic marker illustration and water color. She is a member of the Putnam Arts Council, the Society of Creative Artists
in Newtown, the Washington Art Assoc., the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance.
Mayor Boughton said, "Artists play an important role in Danburys cultural and economic vitality. Artists have enormous financial, social and cultural impact." The cities partnership with HVCA to highlight local talent as well as to bring this art to the public is
something that can't be measured."
